Will Arnett is revealing the text exchange he had with his ex-wife Amy Poehler after both of their podcasts received Golden Globe Awards nominations on Monday, Dec. 8.
Arnett, 55, read out a text message from Poehler, 54, that he received as he spoke with The Hollywood Reporter for a profile promoting his new movie Is This Thing On? Shortly before the interview, Arnett’s SmartLess — which he cohosts with Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes — and Poehler’s Good Hang were both nominated for the Globes’ new Best Podcast award.
“Congrats. Let’s party,” Poehler wrote in the message, as Arnett told THR with a laugh. “I don’t have Bateman’s number, but that’s for the best,” she added, per Arnett.
Arnett and Poehler, who were married from 2003 until their 2012 separation and 2016 divorce finalization, are nominated for their respective podcasts at the Globes alongside fellow nominees Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast and Up First.
Arnett and Poehler share two sons: Archie, 17, and Abel, 15. Arnett is also a dad to son Alexander Denison, whom he welcomed in 2020 with his ex-girlfriend Alessandra Brawn. (Arnett is now dating supermodel Carolyn Murphy, as PEOPLE confirmed in September.)
Arnett’s new movie Is This Thing On? is a comedy-drama about divorce. He stars in the Bradley Cooper-directed film with Laura Dern as a man and woman on the verge of divorcing while raising two young sons.
“Obviously, it’s not inspired by my story, but there are themes in there that I connect to,” Arnett told THR the movie elsewhere in the interview. “I’m just a sum of all of my own experiences, and you bring some of that into what you do. I mean, you try to be sensitive, but it would be weird if I didn’t connect dots on certain things.”
Is This Thing On? is in theaters Dec. 19. Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the 83rd annual Golden Globes live on Sunday, Jan. 11.
