Bindi Irwin sent a direct message to her brother, Robert Irwin, on his 22nd birthday with an iconic throwback video featuring their late father, Steve Irwin.
On Sunday, Nov. 30—although it was already Monday, Dec. 1 in Australia—Bindi took to Instagram with a video of herself meeting her baby brother and giving him an iconic nickname at the hospital shortly after he was born.
“BRIAN!!! Can’t believe you’re already 22. Where does time go?!” Bindi, 27, captioned the update. “Love you so much. Being your sister is the best. @robertirwinphotography.”
At the beginning of the featured clip, Steve explained to a young Bindi that her mom, Terri Irwin, had just given birth to her baby brother, Robert. Another shot showed the proud big sister, 5, holding her newborn brother at the hospital in 2003.
“How do you know he’s a boy? Did you check?” little Bindi asked.
In a different scene, she told her father, “I think by the way he is, I’ll call him Brian.”
“His name’s Robert,” Steve pointed out, to which Bindi insisted, “But I’ll call him Brian for short.”
“OK,” a defeated-looking Steve replied.
To end the video, the Crocodile Hunter star—who died in 2006 at age 44—declared, “It’s like the whole reason you’ve been put on Earth is to do this, is what it seems like.”
In the comments, many Instagram users got emotional over the sweet throwback video, with many agreeing they never skip the clip. One follower admitted, “‘But I’ll call him Brian for short’ gets me every time.”
Another wrote, “Steve saying ‘the whole reason you’re put on earth is to do this’ 😭 happy birthday Robert/Brian. Your dad is so proud of you.”
