Even the Queen of Christmas Can’t Escape This One Song at Home

For most people, Christmas officially begins the moment Mariah Carey hits the speakers. Whether it’s in shopping malls, on the radio, or blasting through playlists as early as November, her voice has become inseparable from the season. There’s a reason she’s known worldwide as the “Queen of Christmas.”

But while the rest of the world sings along happily, it turns out Carey’s own children have reached their limit.

The 56-year-old superstar, whose 1994 classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” continues to dominate charts and playlists, revealed in a playful Instagram post that her twins, Monroe and Moroccan, are officially “sick” of hearing the song. Considering the track earns an estimated $2.5–3 million in royalties every year, that confession came with more than a little irony.

In the viral 2023 video, Carey appears in her signature festive style — a red, Santa-inspired jumpsuit trimmed with white fur — standing in front of a Christmas tree. Beside her, Monroe and Moroccan look anything but festive, dressed in black and clearly unimpressed.

“Mom, please, we don’t want to do this every time!” the twins plead as Carey insists she’s just being festive. Before she can finish her sentence, she launches into the opening line everyone knows by heart: “I don’t want a lot for Christmas…”

That’s all it takes.

The twins immediately walk off-camera in mock frustration, making it clear they’ve heard enough of their mom’s most famous song for a lifetime. The clip racked up over one million likes, with fans loving the self-aware humor. Carey later confirmed it was all a skit, captioning the post: “Had to do it. Merry Christmas Eve!!”

Despite her kids’ playful protest, the song’s legacy remains untouchable. On December 16, it secured its 16th total week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying it for the third-longest chart reign in the chart’s 66-year history. It also stands as one of the longest-running No. 1 songs by a female artist — an incredible feat for a holiday track now celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Carey has previously described the song as one of her proudest achievements, telling Variety in 2019 that it came together quickly and organically — “the way the best songs do.” She later expanded on its creation in her Amazon Music documentary, Mariah Carey Is Christmas.

So while her kids may beg for a break, the rest of the world clearly isn’t ready to stop pressing play. Love it or groan at the first note, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” remains unstoppable — even in Mariah Carey’s own living room. 🎄🎶
