Dutch dance troupe, the CDK Company, performed a jaw-dropping version of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” with truly unique choreography. The group of several dozen dancers created a striking and quirky dance arrangement that quickly went viral, attracting 6.6 million views on YouTube. The video features a number of inspired individual performances as well as several tight, synchronized dance sections that must have taken countless hours to perfect.
Gotye’s signature hit has an arty film clip that is very minimalist. The CDK Company saw that there was room for a bigger production for the song, and brilliantly crafted their own distinctive take on it. Aside from the excellent dance performances, director and choreographer Sergio Reis did a superb job presenting the piece in a captivating way.
The CDK Company’s take on “Somebody That I Used To Know” got a warm reception online, with fans adding comments on YouTube such as “One of the things I really like about this performance is that every single dancer is 100% committed to their part. This is exquisite,” and “This is the Pringles of dance – I literally can’t put the lid back on it, I just want to watch it over and over again. This is such a masterpiece.” Another popular CDK Company video is their take on ERAM’s “Gimme Gimme”.
Sergio Reis releases CDK Company productions annually, although this year we were treated to back-to-back releases of “Somebody That I Used To Know” and “Gimme Gimme” in February.
CDK Company’s version of “Somebody That I Used To Know” was the group’s breakout success on YouTube, becoming the company’s first video to surpass one million views.
