When Kelly Clarkson sang Pink’s breakup anthem “Just Give Me a Reason” not long after her divorce, she had something up her sleeve which would give fans everywhere the chills. As Kelly sang the heartbreaking song over a violin ensemble, Pink suddenly stood up from the crowd and began singing in harmony. Both stars are real vocal powerhouses, and seeing them work their magic together at this performance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards had many fans wishing for more collabs from the two.
One fan favourite moment happened just after the one-minute mark, when Kelly dropped a heavenly vocal run. Pink jokingly waved her hand in response, as if to say “oh stop it, you”, which led to Kelly cracking a huge smile. The Music Man has to say that while there are plenty of epic vocal moments here, what really made this a special performance is the sweet chemistry between the pair. There’s clearly a lot of love between them and seeing the two friends up there having a ball together makes for a feel-good watch.
The Kelly and Pink duet drew 2.2 million views on YouTube. Fans were really loving the duet and added comments such as “I could totally relate to Pink’s reaction 1:05 to Kelly’s part. Both Kelly and Pink have countless killer live performances. One live highlight from Pink came when she sang “Who Knew” in an acoustic session for 102.7 KIIS-FM. Pink performs the song with just a lone guitarist for accompaniment. This stripped-back and intimate rendition is just perfect to bring forward the raw emotions of the ballad. What a voice!
Pink issued “Just Give Me a Reason” on February 26, 2013, as the third single from her sixth studio album, The Truth About Love. Pink wrote the song with Jeff Bhasker and Nate Ruess. Jeff also handled production, while Nate (of the band Fun) appeared as a featured vocalist.
“Just Give Me a Reason” topped the charts in 21 countries. It was Pink’s fourth single to top the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold in excess of four million digital units in the US.
The lyrics discuss a woman imploring her partner to fight for their relationship. The Music Man readers might be interested to hear that Pink brought Nate onboard for the song because she realized that the song needed to be presented in the format of a conversation between lovers, rather than a single perspective.
