Chris Martin dramatically stopped Coldplay’s concert to pay tribute to Charlie Kirk after the conservative activist was shot and killed in Utah.

In a video shared on X, the singer urged fans to put their arms in the air and began, “For the final time for a few years in London, let’s raise our hands like this, and send love anywhere you wanna send it in the world. There are so many places that might need it today.” The shoutout comes after Kirk’s widow spoke out about her husband’s murder.

Martin then named Kirk as he said, “So, here it comes from London. You can send this to your brother or your sister, you can send it to the families of people who have been going through terrible stuff, you can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family, you can send it to anybody’s family.

“You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway. You can send it to peaceful people in the Middle East, in Ukraine and Russia, Azerbaijan and Sudan and Somalia, anywhere that you think might need love from London.

“Here it comes in five, four, three, two, one, go.” The lights then dimmed as fireworks exploded on the band’s jumbotron.

Martin’s comments have sparked divide among Coldplay fans. Some praised him for sending support to Kirk’s family, with one person writing on X, “Say what you will about Cold Play (I’ve loved them for longer than a lot of their fans have been alive) but Chris Martin is a class act.”

“So beautiful,” another person said as a third fan commented, “This is awesome!” However, other Coldplay fans weren’t quite as happy with the tribute.

“I booed that was insane. The fact that’s the only name he mentioned as well,” one critic wrote on X. Another insisted they would “walk out” of any future Coldplay concerts if Martin shared a similar tribute.

It’s safe to say Kirk himself wasn’t a fan of Coldplay. In a video shared on TikTok, he told fans, “I would rather be caught dead than be at a Coldplay concert.”
